Physical Education
Physical Education
Physical education is a significant part of our process of preparing young children for their place in our complex and fast paced world. It is an important part of a school-based program that promotes social, emotional, and physical well being.
The purpose of physical education is to develop and enhance gross motor skills, social and life skills as well as the learner’s thinking and problem solving skills. We recognize the need for the development of positive attitudes of good sportsmanship and fair play. Students are given the opportunity to learn to follow directions, cooperate with each other, and develop leadership abilities. Children also develop life long fitness concepts that will enhance their wellness knowledge and leisure time activities throughout their lives.
The physical education curriculum is linked and driven by state standards and entwined with the Primary Schools curriculum. At all grade levels, students learn and apply developmentally appropriate movement concepts and skills that foster participation in physical activities throughout life. All students also learn to apply health related fitness concepts in developmentally appropriate manners and develop a strong awareness of safety concepts.
